I attended St Nicholas school (later Box Hill School) between approx 1957 and 1962. The school was co-educational and catered to children aged from about age 4 to 18. My brother was 4 and I was 7 when we started at the school. My father was at Edinburgh University medical school specialising in thoracic medicine and my mother studying medicine in london so we were sent off to boarding school. I ...see more
I'm sure my mother has pictures of this place - didn't it used to be called Fredley House? My grandmother worked there in service, probably about 1930-ish. If anyone could shed any light on the subject I would be most grateful.
I remember Miss L Garrard, the Head Mistress, Miss T Garrard her sister, and their adopted son Malcom Daverney (?). He had an open top MG sports car, and one day I had to go to the Dentist in Dorking for emergency treatment and I got taken by him in the MG. I was quite a celebrity for that. I also have memories of St Nicholas, and was a pupil at the school from 1949 aged four, till 1952. Miss Garrard was the headmistress, and I seem to remember she was very kind. I had a kindergarten teacher who was absolutely horrible, very spiteful. I can't remember her name and I wonder if anyone else does. I do remember watching with another pupil, from the top of the staircase, her being taken to ...see more
