The Town Hall is the tall building with the clock tower in the centre of the photograph; it was built in 1864 by E W Godwin at a cost of £8,000. The height of the building has changed since this photograph was taken - in 1967 dry rot wsa discovered, and in the course of repairs, the spire at the top was reduced by one foot.
