More about this scene
There are still many reminders of this view visible today if one looks north from the entrance to the war memorial gardens. The builder and undertaker's shop on the extreme right was on the corner of Church Road, and the frontage of the adjacent cottage is little altered. Further along the road are the King's Hall, advertising 'teas and dances', and the Prince of Wales public house. On the left the Scout Hall (now St Dunstan's Institute) remains, but an entrance to Mickleham Gardens bisects the rectory wall.
