More about this scene
This picturesque Cotswold town in Oxfordshire lies on the slope of a steep hill above the Windrush valley about 20 miles east of Cheltenham. In the broad High Street old inns, houses, small shops and buildings in honey-coloured local stone jostle in a medley of complementary styles. Beyond the war memorial in this view we glimpse the spire of the church of St John the Baptist, where during the Civil War some 340 troops from the Parliamentarian army were held prisoner.
