I was born in 1948 and lived just on the corner of London Rd and Broomhall Lane in a large house converted into flats called Holmwood. My dad was a milkman at Clifford dairies in London Road just past the Station along with my Grandfather who lived in Broomhall Lane in the first cottage called Holmwood Cottage. I`m afraid this photo is not Station road but it is in fact London road and to the right of it were two coal yards Drake and Mount and Fear Bros. Sleet and Stearns were in Heather Drive I think which was off Chobham Road just before the railway bridge. Thank you for the information - our records have now been updated, Editor.
I was born in Coworth rd, number 2 which is opposite the shop, I remember the shops well. The post office was run by the 2 Miss Whites and the VG Stores was run by the Freemans, brothers who were partially sighted. Later on the shop was run by The Tates and I worked for them. My parents had what they called their 'shopping account' with Barclays in Sunningdale - the main account was in Weybridge. About once a week my mother would go into Barclays to withdraw cash, and I would love to go with her. Inside was a magnificent wooden counter which ran the length of the banking hall. It was topped with a metal grill which divided the clients from the clerks (and of course the cash). My mother ...see more
