More about this scene

The pub fronts Main Street, sitting prominently at the junction of Cosby Road and Station Road, and appears to be the bad conversion of a former row of cottages. The fake timber framing is ill considered and out of place, while the rear extension leaves much to be desired. The village along Main Street possesses no outstanding architecture. The Baptist chapel at nearby Sutton-in- Elms and an adjacent 17th- century farmhouse are, however, of some interest.

Railway
I used to catch the train every week to visit my grandmother in Countesthoe. From where I lived in Six Acres it was about a mile walk to the station. The station was often staffed by Paddy a cheerful Irish man. If not him a lady would be on duty. A lady also normally worked the signal box. No 1 Jubilee Road, Broughton Astley.
The first house on the left in the photograph is No 1 Jubilee Road, and the house my parents moved into in 1931. I was only five years old but quite well remember other building going on as the road developed. More Broughton Astley Memories
I spent a very happy childhood - my father was a licensed victualler of Ye Olde Bulls Head on the bridge until he retired in 1949. I went to the local school - my teachers were Miss Pratt & Mrs Jefferies- the Headmaster was "Boss Cook" followed by Mr Muncaster. The Minnow Angler's Paradise
'The Stream' ! We always have called it 'the brook' - Broughton Brook, and still do. However, the brook is in fact a tributary to the River Soar, it may in fact actually be the River Soar but simply not recognised as such until a few miles downstream. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
