One mile inland is the church of St Mary, which includes the nave of the Augustinian priory founded here in 1119 by Walter de Gant. It was saved from destruction at the Dissolution as it was already in use as a parish church. The Bayle Gate across the green, built in 1388, was at various times a courtroom, barracks, a prison and finally a school.

i used to go to Brid every year in the early 50s - early 60s . One of the highlights was going on the boats in the small boating lake - although we weren't supposed to 'bump' we often did although unintentionally - there was also a small ride-on railway next to it - many happy hours over the years i spent on both those rides - and a machine nearby where you could print out your name etc. on a strip of aluminum - such simple pleasures but treasured memories of my now deceased parents
We used to come here every year from me being around 6 month old and I stopped when I was 17. We also used to stay in Mr Josef Jamroz's holiday flats on Bridge St opp Marks and Spencers. The final year I went he wasn't there anymore, he'd sold up and we were told he'd gone back to Poland due to ill health. Often wonder what happened to him and where he went.
Happiest memories are when our family would be in Bridlington at the caravan my grandad had. Bridlington will always be my favourite place.
When I was a child my parents use to take my sister and I to Bridlington on the train from Hull for 2 weeks holiday a year. It was magic land to us. My dad was born and brought up in Flamborough but moved to live in Hull during the war years. So our holidays in Bridlington were very much a part of our lives during our formative years.
