More about this scene
In 1798 Princess Amelia gave Worthing a genteel cachet, but coastal erosion (only cured by groynes) and early sewage problems probably prevented the town rivalling Brighton in popularity. This dignified four-storey stucco terrace of about 1870, with its continuous first-floor balcony, was at the south-east corner of The Steyne. Its site is now a car park, which, let us hope, will be developed soon.
