More about this scene
The former seat of the Earl of Ellesmere, Worsley Old Hall dates from the 16th century. It was here that James Brindley lived while working on the Bridgewater Canal. It was also the residence of the Duke's agent John Gilbert, who is thought to have played a major role in the design of the underground canal network used to bring coal out of his grace's mines.
