More about this scene
'Kirkby', from which West Kirby derives its name, was established by a small group of Scandinavian settlers in the 10th century. The church, or kirk, that they founded here was dedicated to St Bridget, a famous Irish virgin. This photograph is taken close to the junction with Dee Lane. The fine building on the left was occupied by Martins Bank in the mid 1960s. It still functions as a bank, but under the Barclays banner.
