Welford, High Street c.1965

More about this scene
The Leicester to Northampton road passes through Welford's High Street, parallel with the much more tranquil West Street. This view looks north-east and immediately you see the contrast with most other villages in this book - this is a mainly brick built village. We are now in the Lias clay country along the Leicestershire boundary. That said, the 18th-century Welford Manor, beyond the trees on the left, is built in stone.
