More about this scene
This revealing glimpse looks down Market Street towards the High Street. The Town Hall, built in 1872, is on the right, with an advertising placard promoting an Agricultural Show at Berkeley Castle attached to its frontage. The right to hold a market and fair was granted to Maurice, Lord Berkeley by Henry III, and was responsible for the subsequent prosperity of the town.
