Opened on 9 July 1908, the bandstand was built at a cost 'not exceeding £100'. The Corporation, at that time, leased out grazing rights to the park and the then tenant, although not objecting to the bandstand being built, asked for a reduction in rent owing to the loss of pasture - he duly got a rebate of £2 10s.
