Shown here is the sequence of houses that were built by wealthy Georgian merchants; several of the properties are now professional premises. The Old Whyte Harte Hotel has risen again as the Phoenix Hotel and Chinese Restaurant. Unfortunately, the frontage of the hotel, rendered many years ago, lacks the charm of its neighbour the Hare & Hounds.

I used to live in the Royal Standard pub as a child on Elm road when we moved in a car come straight through the window cannot believe it's now a funeral home
My grandfather ran the Nene Inn for Elgoods brewery around 1900 to 1914.
My father was born there in 1903.
Pubs long gone but Elgoods let me have the original name plate .
Just to let everyone know that the factory is still canning peas and other vegetables but is owned by Princes.
The factory has totally changed but the original offices that face onto Ly nn Road are still there.

I enjoyed seeing the photo graphs of the Wisbech canal and especially those showing Trafalgar Row and the river bank with English Brothers wood yard and a coaster moored along side.
