A boat from Jersey enters Weymouth, whilst over on the left a paddler makes ready to depart. On the right, just peeping from behind the harbour wall, is what might be the paddler 'Great Western'. She had either just been, or was about to be sold to Nathaniel Miller for his Preston-Dublin service. 'Great Western' was built in 1867 by Simons & Co, Renfrew, for the Milford-Cork service operated by Ford & Jackson, but was taken over by the GWR in 1872. In the 1880s she had been chartered to the Weymouth & Channel Islands Steam Packet Co.

St Johns School For Boys

Army child and went to eight different schools 1936-1946. There was an all boys school called St Johns at Weymouth. On one of my return trips to my native county from Canada, I was perturbed to see it had been pulled down . I understand it was done just a year inside it's designation as a historical building. Childhood Memories
I first visited Weymouth as a small child during the second world war to see my rather strict widowed maternal grandmother who lived at 10 Carlton Road South, within walking distance of the beach. I particularly recall the strong smell of gas in the kitchen and geraniums in the porchway. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
