More about this scene
Waterford lies along the North Road from Hertford towards Stapleford and Stevenage - the road follows the course of the meandering River Beane. The row of four whitewashed cottages in the foreground leads up to the Vicarage Lane turning on the right; the lane crosses the river about 200 yards north of the Overflow, a weir at Waterford Marsh. Just after the lane stands what was in the 1950s the Old Windmill Tea Rooms - it had been the post office in the 1930s. Today it is a private residence.
