Wallasey, The Village c.1955

More about this scene
Like W164301 (page 43), this was taken from Leasowe Road, but from the opposite corner some fifty-five years later. The ornate lamp-post and drinking trough have gone, to be replaced by bollards and a zebra crossing. The large black and white half-timbered building, with the bus stops outside, is the Black Horse Inn, which still stands. The building to its left has been demolished to create a car parking area, and the ornate clock on the wall of W Sumpter's stationer's shop (left) is also, unfortunately, a thing of the past.
