As the name of the colliery would indicate this pit is actually in the Ely Valley and at the time of the Frith photograph would be one of the few still in full production. Mind you it was started later as the two shafts here were not sunk until 1913. At its peak it employed 1,580 men and produced 515,000 tons of coal. There is a nicely composed divergence between the dark tree and wholly conical-shaped slag heap in the distance.
