More about this scene
Frank Barret`s garage (left) took over the premises of an Edwardian hat factory. The garage supplied petrol via a long arm that swung out over the pavement, as we can see here. Above the garage was a snooker hall. The tall building two doors along is the 15th-century Recorder`s House. Its right-hand neighbour, the Manse, was home to Gustav Holst between 1917 and 1925.
