The dominant building in this photograph was first a Victorian covered market, claiming to be the largest undercover market in Britain at the time. Built in 1877, it was badly damaged in the three-night 'Blitz' of 1941 which claimed so many of Swansea's buildings (and not a few of its more unfortunate inhabitants).
