Stockton On Tees, Dovecote Street c.1960

More about this scene
We are looking westwards from the High Street into Dovecot Street. A major change was the demolition of the old Stockton Literary and Philosophical Institute - the tallest building to the right - not long after this picture was taken. On the left up the street we can just see the end gable of the Brunswick Methodist chapel - a very thriving church in the earlier history of the town; it still survives, but as a carpet warehouse.
