More about this scene
Staverton Bridge has seen its fair share of incidents, especially in the form of floods; though less common than they were, these still occur. Perhaps the oddest incident on the bridge took place in 1436 when the vicar, Sir John Laa, killed John Gayne with a knife after an argument. The Bishop accepted that he had been provoked, and let him off!
