We Will Be Back

A Memory of Stafford.

Hi,
I was born 43 Tixall road and my Grandmother was at No. 45 we would walk into town via the River Sow
to the baths with towel under our arms. Or into town to Woodalls for material or wool and on market day there would be flags for your donations and into the old market with the smells of fruit and veg .
Around the back was the gas works with the constant smell of the gas and a visit to the park to feed the ducks and a ride on the merry go round in the kids park. To hear the sound of the steam trains whistling through the station and see the wheel tapper at his work. A visit to the fire station or to Pickups shop who converted us to electricity from gas.
A sweet shop in St.Thomas Street selling ice lollies or cayli sherbert and the cobbler with nails in his mouth from the next door shop and a stamp machine which never worked in my lifetime; memories. I was back in the late 70's working the area for W+T Avery servicing the scales that once weighed my sweets, or at the Universal and Dormans.
Dad was stationed at 16MU and later became a taxi driver for Carters, driving Rolls Royce's and again as a Postman where his father-in Law also worked for the Post Office.
What happened to Peter Binns or Melvin Moss ?
