Southend Technical College
A Memory of Southend-on-Sea.
I remember the many years, 1964 - 1975 attending “night school”, and also working at Southend Tech, Engineering Dept. All gone now, first the original College building which used to be where the Odeon cinema is now, then later the London Road, Engineering Dept building, which is now a Students accommodation site. Carnarvon Road building now converted into Flats etc.
Such fun it was sitting at the old desks while the Lecturers gave good old “chalk and talk” lessons. No “student centred learning” in those days. And what about the Language Laboratory classroom at Carnarvon Road, rows of booths each with reel to reel tape decks with headphones!
The London Road classrooms had long benches for three people and stools to sit on - one way to keep your attention. Anyone remember Marc the French lad, and Dave Morgan, the Lab techs boss, or Bernard Harris. What about the lovely girl in reception, and I bet you would never forget W N Aplin the head of department? Lots of other names come to mind, Barry Mead, Mick Weaver, Colin Duff, love to know where are they now?
