We are twenty years or so on from photograph No S162010. The horse-drawn trams are but a memory, and Isaac Black's famous clothing hall has replaced Greaves & Co, though Liptons and Crofts would be around for some years to come.

I just went to an estate auction in muncie, indiana, USA... I purchased what I believe is a needle holder, leather, with gold writing. It says: Moncrieff &Beck Jewellers Ctr 14KingStreet South Shields Does anyone know about this business? Do I have the right time period? We're they prominent Jewelers?
My dad worked at the middle docks just about 1956 and in them days the shipyards would have their fortnight summer holidays all at once. Hello. My grandparents and family lived at No 5 Whitehall Street opposite from West Park. The houses were originally `well to do` and had been transformed into upper and lower flats. The fronts had bay windows. I remember the street seemed quite steep to me as a child and had a railing down at the bottom where the street crossed Stanhope Road.
