South Ockendon 1960s

A Memory of South Ockendon.

I have very fond memories of my childhood in South Ockendon. My maiden name was Mary Cooper and we lived in a bungalow in West Road. The garden was big and had an orchard next to it. Jennifer and Rowland Costain were often in that Orchard and we used to chat over the fence. I remenber there were geese in there that we were scared of.. I went to Benyon School and remenber The teachers, Mr Impey the head master, Mrs Beaver, Mrs Morgan, Mr. Heath, Mrs Parkes. They were very happy times. My Nan and Geandad lived in a prefab in South Road and my grandad would often take me over the park after school with my younger sister Jane. I remember George Blows, Mrs Hall's paper shop and Randall's the butchers. My "Aunty" Daisy Slater ran the post office in those days. Some of my classmates in junior school were Kathleen Pearce, Susan Clark, Gillian Newton, Jan Winterbottom, Denise Trowell, Christine Oakley. I was very friendly with Ruth Shipman who was two years older than me and also lived in West Road. When the area was redeveloped we moved to Hutton in 1967. Does any one remenber me or my family?
