More about this scene
Landaus still stand for hire in this picture. The flat-roofed Foreshore Centre (left) contained a first-aid room as well as an information bureau, left luggage office and lost children's shelter. It had been built as a dance hall and café in 1911, and was demolished in 1971. Frederica Terrace, on the right, is now extended forward to the pavement with bars and amusement arcades, but at the time of the photograph it was mainly the Parade Hotel.
