The links had opened in the same year as the photograph, on 25 April 1910: the first ball was driven off by the local MP, Lord Willoughby de Evesby. This was followed by a match between four open winners, James Braid, then the current champion, J N Taylor, Harry Vardon and George Duncan. The substantial clubhouse pictured here cost £3,000; it is now the North Shore Hotel.
