Rolvenden, The Village And St Mary The Virgin Church 1901

More about this scene
Many villagers left their homes here between 1830 and 1850 when the parish gave them money to go to Australia. This often meant that they would never return and see scenes like the one pictured here - the 13th-century church of St Mary and all the history that goes with it. The church's most famous vicar was John Frankish, one of the martyrs of 1555 burned at the stake in Canterbury.
