More about this scene
The Dialect Writers' Memorial, erected in 1900, was sometimes referred to as the Poets` Memorial. It honours Edwin Waugh, Oliver Ormerod, John Trafford Clegg and Margaret Rebecca Lahee, but Tim Bobbin is a notable omission. In 1986 the name of Rochdale`s much-loved Harvey Kershaw MBE was added. The mills near the Roach at the eastern end of the town centre are on the left.
