More about this scene
Intending passengers await the arrival of their tram. Rochdale abandoned its tramway system in November 1932; it was a casualty of the Depression, along with many of the town's cotton mills. With so many townsfolk out of work, revenue plummeted, and there was little alternative but to replace the trams with more economical, and from an operating point of view, more flexible buses.
