Childhood Memory Of Growing Up In Rhymney

A Memory of Rhymney.

I loved living in Pen-y-dre. I remember there being a see saw thing in the classroom and waited all day eagerly waiting my turn, I was heartbroken when it was time to go home and I was still waiting my turn.
The lovely thing about living there was there was always someone to play with, we used to play around by the lamppost by Mrs Lance's when it started to get dark.
In the summer I loved to slide on a bit of cardboard down the tumps over the fields.
A secret place to play was the old mine, thank God never heard anyone get hurt.
I also remember the brewery draws losing barrels off the back coming up Brewery Hill.
It was fun too to see pigs being walked up through the High Street, also loved seeing the old steam roller working on the tarmac when they were doing the roads.
There are so many memories. My family is still in Rhymney, I left in 1964, not by choice, so my memories are locked in for keeps.
Another memory is going up the Nant to get spring water and going up the white stones to pick wimberries.
My one regret is I have no school classroom photos.
