More about this scene

Just north of Richmond are the remains of this old Norman castle. Inside the keep, the massive fireplaces needed to keep this rather desolate monument warm can still be seen. The castle is unusual in that it was built in the lower part of the village; it is now overlooked by the church at Kirby Hill. Almost a forgotten castle, there are no plaques commemorating its existence, and it is now in private hands, standing on a farm surrounded by cattle.
