Burgate Gateway To The Cinema
A Memory of Pickering.
Burgate is where the Castle Cinema used to be. That brings back lots of happy memories of days gone by. I went to the cinema as a child, and then worked there, on the projectors with Ron Rich. The White Horse pub was across the road from the cinema, Alan Judson had it when I worked on the projector's. R V Roger had a flower shop in this street, has had Mrs Champion with her china shop etc. At the top of the street was Asby's cake shop. I took piano lesson's at Mrs Penock's, she told me I would never play the piano if I lived to be 100 - She was correct! It's a well used street as it lead's to Pickering Castle. These happy days are remembered with joy by Chibby Chamberlain.
