More about this scene

One of these very similar views shows the town on a bright summer day with the road thronged with vehicles and the pavements, benches and sea wall busy with visitors enjoying the Cheshire sunshine and the expansive views across the Dee Estuary. The second photograph depicts a virtually deserted Parkgate, but there is still evidence of a beach beneath the sea wall. The projecting section of promenade shown in both photographs is known as the Donkey Stand, because it was possible to take donkey rides along the sands from here as far as South Slip and back.

My Grandma And My Mother.
I was so pleased to see this photo in a Francis Frith book. The two ladies in the foreground are my Grandma and my Mother. Grandma was Mrs. Archie Turner (1892-1974) who lived in Whitford Road, Birkenhead. My Mother, Mrs. Clifford Bolt (1916-2003) lived in Arthur Street, Birkenhead. I think this photo could have been taken in the 1950s. Memory from Margaret Halpin (nee Bolt.)

The Little Ice Cream Shop
The little ice cream shop next to the Copper Grill has the best ice cream in Parkgate. I have been going there for about 25 years. I love Parkgate, it's a lovely place now and always has been.

Family Memories.
I was amazed and delighted to see a photograph of my mother and grandmother. Nearest the camera is my grandmother, Mrs Archie Turner (1892-1974) who lived in Whitford Road, Birkenhead. Next to her is her eldest daughter, my mother, Mrs Clifford Bolt (1916-2003) who lived in Arthur Street, Birkenhead. They would both have been tickled pink to see themselves in print and famous!

On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
