More about this scene
There has been a beer house in the village for well over 200 years. The innkeepers were not choosey over how they obtained their spirits, and there was a great smuggling trade here. Monuments to the brave officers who attempted to stem the trade in contraband still stand in the church yard: these are William Green, a customs officer, and Light Dragoon William Webb, who were both killed by smugglers in 1784.
