Remembering

A Memory of Mossley.

I was brought up in Mossley and have lots of happy memories. My sister Dot still lives there, she fills me in on what is going on.  I now live in Florida but will always be a part of Mossley which I took so much for granted while living there.  I have travelled to a lot of places and countries since I left there but believe me there is nowhere quite like Mossley, it is a lovely place to see.  I show people over here photos and they all say it looks nice.  I had a lot of good friends there.  I went to All Saints C of E, left school in 1959, started work at Astalls foundry then went to the Brunswick mill for a while.  Both parents were born in Mossley so we really belong there.  No matter where I go I will never forget it or my life and friends who are still there, so if anyone wants to get in touch my e mail is pete010@adelphia.net.  I will keep checking back now and then and hope someone else writes here.   It is a good idea, will write some more later..  Pete Brooks

Hi Pete, John Sutton here, I lived on Manchester Road Mossley, did you live next door. My mum worked at Brunswick mill.
Hi I worked at a.foundry on Egmont street in the mid 80s Astalls it was called. I was a.moulder and we made saddles for north west water. I was a junior moulding apprentice and I remember Alan and a couple of lads Martin and a guy with curly hair who taught me well. Sorry for forgetting your name! Great memories of an era gone.
I worked in the same foundry. My name is dale Thomas. I remember Martin and John Mc cann worked there too,. The foreman with the curly hair was called Jim and he had a good sideline in homemade £1 coins. A women called irene and another guy called crop worked in the fettling shop. Tom Astall the owner was a bit of an arsehole and some relic from the mill owning classes. I was into Punk at the time and fucked the job off to go to gigs and get pissed. That was no place for a young person to be, or anyone else for that matter; smokey, dirty and dangerous. x
it was 1983/4 when I worked there
