Now a hotel, the Old Court House was built by Sir Robert Brooke - he had bought the estate for £946 (an enormous sum of money for the times) following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. The name of the house comes about because he was a lawyer and also speaker of the House of Commons.
