More about this scene
This view was taken north-eastwards along Marine Parade, below Langmoor Gardens (left), to the Bay Hotel, 1830-built Madeira Cottages and Cobb Gate Jetty (centre). Beyond are the coastal heights of Stonebarrow Hill and Golden Cap (right), which at 617ft above sea level - higher than Beachy Head - is the highest point on the south coast. Lucy's Jetty (bottom right) was designed and built by the eminent geologist Sir Henry Thomas De La Beche in 1820.
