More about this scene
This ornate pleasure craft looks perilously low in the water, but the throng of passengers seem quite oblivious of the rising water levels. Queen Victoria was a regular visitor to the Crystal Palace, and once encouraged the Shah of Persia to sample its delights. These pleasure grounds were an unparalleled symbol of the continuing glories and achievements of her reign.
