Littleborough, Lake Hotel Cafe c.1950

More about this scene
The cafe was in the former Rowing Club building of 1860. It had a spacious balcony with good views, two billiard tables on the upper floor, gas lighting and two clocks to avoid missing the ferries. The ferries were timed to link in with passing trains. The Lake Hotel had opened in 1872 with a floating landing stage, a subaqueous telegraph linking it to the booking office for ferry steamers, a skating rink, a bowling green and well laid-out gardens with a brass band often in attendance.
