More about this scene
The ornate obelisk of 1763 commemorates a chapel that once stood on High Bridge. On the left is the celebrated timber-framed 16th-century range of shops and dwellings built on the west side of the bridge. The buildings beyond the obelisk have now made way for the prestigious modern Waterside shopping centre.
