More about this scene

The road leads down through the village of Lealholm to the bridge over the River Esk in the background. This is always been a popular place for a picnic, as we can see from the parked cars to the right of the bridge. Just upstream from the bridge is a set of stepping stones crossing the river.

Memories of Lealholm, the Village Green c1955

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. These memories are of Lealholm, The Village Green c.1955

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

As a child I remember coming to Lealholm with my father. His aunts, the Misses Codling, lived beside, what was then called, the Shepherds Hall and ran a tea room and boarding house from their home. Several years ago I visited with my husband to find that there is now a restaurant at the hall. My cousin still lives in Easington and my father's family grew up around the area. I have nothing but happy memories from those childhood visits.
I was born in the cottage (not on the photograph) attached to the cottage to the right of the picture. I lived there until I left home in 1983. My parents lived there from 1955 until 2007. I have very many memories of Lealholm and always like to go back and visit.
