More about this scene

In the 1660s Kinver was the scene of an unsuccessful attempt by Andrew Yarranton to make the Warwickshire Stour navigable from Stourbridge to Stourport-on-Severn. A cut was made across the outskirts of Kinver parish, which can still be seen to this day. The river between Kidderminster and Stourbridge did open for traffic, and proved useful for the transportation of coals.

White Hill
I was born in James Street, but I was brought up from 6 months old in one of the cottages in the picture. Sam Shuker was my grandmother's brother, we lived next door to him and her sister Alice and Millie. The other side of us lived my uncle George, his wife Ethel and their daughter Margaret who still lives in Chandler Avenue. I remember Jack Evans and his family very well.

J T Biggs Builders And Underrtakers
My grandfather, Jospeh Thomas Biggs and later my father, Horace Leonard Biggs, from 1936 operated a building company and undertakers from Kinver High street in the 1930s. The company built many houses in Kinver, Wollaston, Stourbridge & Kidderminster. The houses were mainly detached and nearly all had distinctive roof scroll finials on the ends of the ridges. School Holidays In Kinver
We had a caravan in Kingsford Lane, Kinver from 1960 to about 1963, my dad bought it from someone in Wollaston and we used to stay there all the school holidays and weekends and my dad would go to work from there to Fry's diecasting in Wordsley. Farm At White Hill
My father Jenkin Evans and mother Valerie Evans lived at Potters Cross Farm, White Hill, Kinver from just before the Second World War. This is the farmhouse which you can see which still exists to this day. They raised four children, Jayne, Helen, John and Hadyn who were all educated locally in the village. Kinver was a much quieter place in the 1950s and 1960s, less cars, more characters and more open space. ...see more

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
