More about this scene
On the left side of Ceylon House is the post office and to the right the grocer's and provision's shop, both run by William Lowrey. Today both businesses are in the right half of the building. The Victorian terraces and semi-detached houses are the same today. At the corner of Bethel Drive is the beach-flint Sailor's and Fisherman's Bethel (left), still functioning as a place of worship.
