Anchor Inn

A Memory of Irby.

The Anchor Inn was one of my Mum and Dad's favourite haunt.  When my husband and I were courting in 1984 we went in one evening and there was a gentleman (quite inebriated) perched on a stool, cigarette in one hand and a whisky in the other. He fell backwards, stool and all, and landed with cigarette and glass of whisky still intact clutched in his hands.

Your posting re the Anchor Inn was made back in 2008 and I wondered if you are still available to share a memory or two about the pub and old Irby ?
We drove through Irby about 4 years ago and was sad to see the Anchor Inn had gone. I remember the public footpath sign and often hiking across the fields to Thurstaston Cross.
Hi all,my mum & dad managed the anchor from early 70s to 1986 my parents names were john & mary strolin,we came from liverpool the pub was a proper pub in them days,we had a bar a lounge & a smoke room all very original, the clientele were brilliant the bar full of rogues lol whom i became friendly with and still in touch with today & a few whove sadly gone D Trueman B Hughes rip, soon after there retirment the anchor became a eateri which my dad was not happy with,ps hope all u irbyites are all ok....with love from chris strolin
The Anchor Inn has not gone just that it has been extended and is now more of a restaurant. The public footpath across the fields to Thurstaston is also still there. Not much has really changed thank goodness..
