More about this scene
Horsforth is now not much more than a suburb of nearby Leeds, but when this photograph was taken, it still retained its separate, village character. The town was founded on a ford over the River Aire, near Kirkstall Forge, where the monks of Kirkstall Abbey once smelted iron ore.
