A Selection of Memories from Holmbury St Mary

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Holmbury St Mary

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

At 7 years old I was evacuated from Croydon to Holmbury in 1940 so knew the village and the P.O. very well. My older sister (Miss Ruby Shove) was also evacuated there as a young teacher at the village school. My memory is of Eric Bullen from the P.O. so was he your father or have I mistaken the name? I am now 85 years old.
I live in one of these houses with my grand parents and my parents. As my grandfather work on Bulmer Farm as a herdsman. Before he retired. My mother work at Beatrice Webb. As the Cook.

I have virtually all these original post cards as shown on this site. After my grandfather (Harry Bullen), Holmbury Post Master, stopped publishing his own, he changed to Friths. My bedroom was in the western end of the P.O (see tiny window) overlooking the shed in the attached pic. This was an electrical shop in the 50's 60's run by Pat Overington. My father, Godfrey, was born in the house. More later if anyone interested .
