Henley On Thames, Bridge And Vicarage 1893

More about this scene
These two views both feature the fine Georgian river bridge and the southern part of Riverside, sometimes called Thames Side; by this date it was solely used for mooring and hiring pleasure craft, not for corn barges. Both views show the Angel Hotel by the bridge and the Rectory to its left - one shows a top-hatted coachman driving past. This house with its early 18th-century front was bought by the then rector, James King, and given 'in perpetuity' as a residence for the rectors of Henley. His wishes were not respected - this fine building is now used as offices.
