More about this scene
This interesting scene at the top of the principal highway through Helston shows the granite classical-style Guildhall of 1839 behind the covered delivery wagon. The Cornish Bank is beyond, and beside it an omnibus has begun to ascend Wendron Street. One feature of Helston is the fresh water flowing in the gutters, which we can see on the right where a handful of heavily dressed women pose on the wide pavement outside a variety of shops.
